As summer’s warmth fades and the cool, crisp air of autumn arrives, nature is transformed into a vibrant tapestry of red, orange, and yellow. In this workshop we will capture the beauty of autumn landscapes in two acrylic paintings. Along the way you will learn:

• The sequence of acrylic layering techniques in creating autumn landscapes,
• How to apply color themes and mix and combine colors to enhance your autumn painting,
• The difference of autumn lighting compared to other seasons and apply the lighting to create more realistic landscape paintings,
• To create depth and strong narrative with the right amount of detail in the right place,
• How to apply different brushstrokes to different landscape objects such as trees, grass, mountains, water, and sky,
• How to rearrange objects in the composition to create a landscape with stronger narrative, motion, focal point, and depth.

This workshop will include painting demos, student work feedback sessions, slideshow presentations, and eye training exercises. This combination of activities is designed to help refine your painting techniques and observation skills. Photo references will be provided for all painting assignments. More experienced students can use their own references.

In person workshops will have extended painting sessions. During these sessions, students will get one-on-one mentoring from Wayne.

Online workshop students can attend class live via Zoom and will have access to download a video file of the painting demo to refer to so they can paint along at home at their own pace. There will be critiques at the beginning of some of the classes.

Online workshop students are responsible for knowing how to:

• Log into Zoom. Be sure to test this before the first class session.
• Send email or post photos of their painting to Wayne for feedback.
